FFI March 19th Meeting

Posted in General on March 13, 2020 by flyfishersofidaho

Our monthly meeting is Thursday March 19 at 6:30. This will be our last meeting at the Boise Fish and Game office for a while. There will be no monthly meeting for April, due to our fish out at Duck Valley. Future monthly meetings will be at the Nampa Fish and Game office.
At this months meeting we will discuss the Sportsman Show and the success our club had. A special thanks to all of those who worked our booth and assisted with our presentation. For all of those who donated flies for the fish and those who obtained items for the raffle, thank you.
The March meeting will have a presentation on fishing Duck Valley. Joe and Brad will provide us with their knowledge on the location. For those of us in the club that have not been to Duck Valley or have limited experience with lake fishing, will find the information extremely valuable.
In the mean time, stay healthy and stay away from

FFI Booth 2020

Big Fish

Hello all, just want to say thank you to all in our FFI organization for the hard work and dedication to a super successful sportsman show this year. We really scored with the raffle tickets this go round thanks to Ballard Larsen’s carney skills,he could sell the Coronavirus and make a profit. We have many contributor’s to thank, first as always David Beal for his donation and allowing us to participate in the event year after year, Christi and Ballard Larsen for scoring the Luciano’s gift basket which by the way was the number one hit, we will remember that next year, Randy Rook and his company Electrical Wholesale Supply Co for the Milwaukee Heated jacket, the Warhawk Air Museum for the Family membership and the FFI flyrod we donated along with the Big Fish. What a great way to start the year.                                                                                                                                          Thanks again D.S.

Duck Valley

Posted in General on February 22, 2020 by flyfishersofidaho

Our annual trip to Duck Valley is April 18th. For those who have never been, it’s a lot of fun. Fishing is great but the weather can be unpredictable. Tent camping can be a challenge to say the least. If you plan on going, camp spots are filling up, so I suggest you call the Owyhee ACE Hardware soon to make campground reservations. If you don’t need electricity or water hook ups, reservations are not needed and you can camp in one of the many open spaces. The phone number for the hardware store is 775-7572305.
I am staying Wednesday April 15 and will depart on Monday April 20th. I will be in Space 11, Don and Don will be in Space 14 and will be there the 15th thru the 19th.
Come for the 18th or stay for a few days and join the fun. If you have any questions, email me or give me a call. You can also visit shopaitribes.org

Chinook Salmon Fisheries Meeting, New Fish and Game office Nampa

Posted in General on February 4, 2020 by flyfishersofidaho

Hello All, there are a few updates I wanted to provide. Firstly, I wanted to direct your attention to some really cool habitat restoration videos that our agency recently put together highlighting some great partnerships and work being done across the state to enhance fish habitat. The first two installments of those can be found at the links below and a third installment is pending.  Look for the third installment on our website soon.

Click on link at bottom page

Part 1: River Restoration Series: Partnerships essential in restoring fish habitat

Part 2: River Restoration Series: Engineering, heavy equipment renew habitat for Idaho’s fish

Also, I’ve attached a news release outlining some upcoming public meetings relating to Chinook Salmon fisheries on the South Fork Salmon River. For those in the Treasure Valley that are interested, there will be a public meeting at the new IDFG Southwest Regional office (15950 N Gate Blvd, Nampa) on Tuesday, February 25th at 5:30 PM. This will not only be a great opportunity to hear about Chinook fishing on the SF Salmon, but also get updates on many of the other important fisheries in the region including Cascade, CJ Strike, and the Boise River. It will also be a great opportunity for you to meet and interact with your regional fisheries staff.

I enjoyed meeting and chatting with many of you at the recent Western Idaho Fly Expo. It’s always great to chat in-person.

Finally, many of you might recall that in my last email I mentioned pending updates on our 2019 field work. All that data is currently being compiled and summarized and I look forward to sharing more of that with you in the coming months.

Thanks,

John Cassinelli

Hayspur Hatchery News

Hayspur sign 10

As many of you know we at (FFI) have continued to upgrade the
campground and clean up Loving Creek over the years. Last years
effort was to provide and help install additional fire rings at the
campground, restore a sign, and stream work. Plans this year will
include more of the same. Joe and Brad are currently
working on the large sign that points to the Hatchery/
Campground off Highway 20. We determined that the old
sign was too rotten to repair so we are building a replacement. Special thanks to Joe Kotts and Brad Strawn on some fine wood working skills this was way over the top and should last the rest of our lifetimes, well done. D.S.
